Sophia Alexiou was born in Athens. She has studied French Literature at the National University of Athens. After having worked for many years in fashion magazines, she decided to dedicate herself to something completely different, the creation of jewelry, exploring her limits and her talents. She is a silversmithing school graduate and she has attended seminars at Benaki Museum and Silver-Goldsmithing School of Stemnitsa. She’s been a member of Syn Apeiron Contemporary Jewelry Workshop team and she has participated in its annual exhibitions, as well as in the international exhibitions “Hellenic Jewelry Fair” and “Modern Creations”. She is inspired by the nature of her island of origin, Cephalonia, and the cultural heritage of Greece and she designs contemporary jewelry in small editions, which she handcrafts with care in her Athens based studio.

“For me, jewelry is art. Line, texture, form, color, freedom of experimentation… a microcosmos with all the elements of modern art. It has, though, unique aspects that make my journey from paper to metal a fascinating adventure : it needs craftmanship to be valid and is related to the human body. Because jewelry is art made to wear”.
